Worked on the UKGovernmentBEIS/control-arena repository, focusing on backend development and code maintainability using Python. Addressed a security-sensitive bug by refining the logic for converting honest tool calls to attack tool calls, ensuring warnings are triggered and tool names are only overwritten when necessary to maintain correct function mapping. Additionally, performed targeted code cleanup by removing the unused resampled_monitor_responses field from the DTRMetadata data model, reducing complexity while preserving existing behavior. Emphasized risk reduction and future maintainability through careful refactoring and bug fixing, demonstrating a methodical approach to backend engineering and data model simplification within a critical codebase.
