Worked on the linkedin/rest.li repository to implement OpenTelemetry metrics support for the XDS Client, focusing on enhancing observability for latency, throughput, and error rates. The approach introduced a No-Op metrics provider as the default, streamlining integration and eliminating the need for null checks in the backend codebase. Comprehensive unit tests were added to validate the new metrics features and ensure reliability. The work included updating release notes and maintaining PR hygiene by addressing feedback and coordinating with co-authors. Utilized Java, OpenTelemetry, and backend development skills to improve maintainability and reduce mean time to resolution for metrics-related issues.
