Worked on backend stability and monitoring improvements for HBase codebases, focusing on resolving critical NullPointerExceptions in JVM pause monitoring. Addressed issues in both the apache/hbase and HubSpot/hbase repositories by implementing defensive coding practices such as null checks and robust MBean value retrieval in JSP and Java. These changes ensured that JvmPauseMonitor metrics display reliably even when MBeans are unavailable, reducing crash risk and improving system observability. The work contributed to HBASE-29038, reinforcing monitoring dashboard stability and decreasing incident risk. Demonstrated a methodical approach to bug fixing, backend development, and cross-repository collaboration to enhance uptime and reliability.
