Worked on the mendersoftware/mender repository to enhance the reliability of root device detection within the rootfs update module. Refactored the detection logic to prioritize reading from /proc/cmdline, ensuring accurate identification of the root device, and implemented a fallback mechanism using device number matching to maintain compatibility, particularly for UBI devices. This approach reduced the risk of incorrect root device identification and deployment failures on edge devices. The work demonstrated proficiency in embedded systems, shell scripting, and system administration, focusing on correctness and maintainability while addressing edge cases where standard detection methods may be unavailable or unreliable.
