Worked on the grafana/prometheus repository to enhance observability and data quality within TSDB blocks by expanding block statistics. Developed new metrics, including a NumHistogramSamples field and logic to increment it for histogram-encoded chunks, as well as a NumFloatSamples statistic to improve visibility into float sample distributions. These additions support more accurate histograms and facilitate capacity planning and performance tuning. All changes were implemented in Go, focusing on backend development practices and ensuring traceable, reproducible commits. The work addressed the need for deeper insight into TSDB block contents, enabling more granular monitoring and analysis for backend systems.
