Worked on the Shopify/opentelemetry-ruby-contrib repository to enhance Rails instrumentation by implementing a feature that strips the '(.:format)' suffix from the http.route attribute. This change was designed to produce cleaner and more consistent OpenTelemetry traces across Ruby on Rails applications, reducing trace noise and improving the correlation of routes with business transactions. The approach included adding an automated test case to ensure the new behavior remains stable and to guard against regression.
