Developed a programmatic OpenTelemetry wrapping solution for AWS Lambda functions in Ruby within the Shopify/opentelemetry-ruby-contrib repository. This work introduced a Wrap module and enhanced the Handler class, allowing developers to instrument Lambda handlers directly in code rather than relying on Lambda Layers. The approach streamlined observability integration for Ruby-based serverless applications, improving consistency and maintainability of instrumentation. Comprehensive documentation and tests were created to support reliable adoption and minimize integration challenges. The project leveraged skills in AWS Lambda, OpenTelemetry, and Ruby, focusing on delivering a robust, maintainable feature that simplifies tracing and monitoring for serverless Ruby environments.
