Developed a reproducible local development environment for the HeyPuter/puter repository by introducing a devcontainer.json configuration. This work leveraged containerization and DevOps practices to standardize development environments across different machines and IDEs, using JSON to define the container image, installed features, and relevant settings. The approach addressed common issues such as environment drift and onboarding friction, ensuring that all contributors could work with consistent tooling and dependencies. By establishing this maintainable baseline, the project is now better positioned for future enhancements, including automated local testing and improved alignment with CI/CD pipelines, ultimately supporting more efficient and reliable development workflows.
