Alex contributed to the apache/nifi repository by addressing a persistent UI layering issue, focusing on the bring-to-front behavior for connections and labels. Using Angular, TypeScript, and RxJS, Alex implemented a z-index management algorithm that ensures new elements are always rendered above existing ones, resolving inconsistencies in the user interface. This work also stabilized FlowEffects tests, reducing flakiness and improving reliability for UI-related specifications. By tying changes to explicit NIFI tickets and maintaining clear commit references, Alex enhanced code traceability and future maintainability. The solution improved both the stability of the NiFi UI and the overall developer experience.
