During the month, contributed backend development work to the CDCgov/prime-reportstream repository, focusing on enhancing observability through improved telemetry. Implemented a feature in Kotlin that added an itemCount property to the REPORT_RECEIVED event, enabling item-level tracking for received reports. This change allowed for more granular monitoring on dashboards and supported better SLA compliance by providing detailed inbound report metrics. The update was scoped to minimize risk and integrated seamlessly with existing telemetry systems. Leveraging skills in backend development and observability, the work delivered measurable business value by improving the accuracy and utility of operational monitoring without introducing regressions.
