Worked on the Kong/kong repository to enhance observability and reliability by introducing a Prometheus gauge metric that monitors connectivity between the data plane and control plane. Developed the control_plane_connected metric, which reports real-time health status, enabling users to detect and alert on connectivity issues. Integrated the metric into the existing Prometheus endpoint and updated the connection logic to ensure accurate health signaling. This feature was implemented using Go and focused on monitoring, networking, and system design principles. The work provided a clear, actionable signal for operational teams, improving the system’s readiness for alerting and supporting robust infrastructure monitoring practices.
