Worked on the projectcalico/calico repository to deliver a feature that conditionally loads Prometheus WireGuard metrics only when WireGuard is enabled. This involved refactoring the metrics configuration in Go to prevent unnecessary metric collection and avoid loading the WireGuard kernel module unless it was actively in use. By optimizing resource usage, the changes reduced startup overhead and runtime consumption, particularly in environments where WireGuard is disabled. The implementation maintained compatibility with existing Prometheus exporters and dashboards, ensuring operational stability. Demonstrated skills in Go, networking, and system programming while focusing on efficiency, maintainability, and seamless integration within the monitoring pipeline.
