
Over three months, Mertes enhanced reproducibility and data provenance in bioinformatics workflows by developing and refining features for bioconda/bioconda-recipes and nf-core/rnaseq. In bioconda/bioconda-recipes, Mertes stabilized builds by pinning dependencies and updating packaging metadata, using R programming and dependency management to ensure reliable, cross-language data workflows. Later, Mertes improved nf-core/rnaseq by adding sequencing platform metadata support, extending the workflow’s metadata model and integrating new parameters into alignment and samplesheet processes. Working with Nextflow, R, and YAML, Mertes delivered well-scoped, maintainable features that addressed reproducibility and compatibility challenges in complex data processing pipelines without introducing regressions.
