During December 2024, Thomas developed the Directional Split Movement Navigation feature for the ghostty-org/ghostty repository, focusing on enhancing split-view interactions. Using Zig for back end development, he implemented orientation-aware navigation logic that enables users to move seamlessly between split surfaces based on their current position, specifically supporting left and right directional movement. This approach streamlined multi-surface workflows and reduced friction in the user interface by determining adjacent surfaces dynamically. Although the work was limited to a single feature over one month, the solution demonstrated clear commit-level traceability and addressed a targeted usability challenge within the project’s split-view navigation system.
