
Over a two-month period, contributed to the modal-labs/modal-client repository by developing features and optimizations focused on storage management and system reliability. Implemented foundational RPCs using Protocol Buffers and gRPC to enable container directory mounting and directory snapshotting, streamlining task state capture in containerized environments. Enhanced backend performance by optimizing blob upload and hashing processes, including increasing hash chunk sizes and introducing timing logs for observability. Addressed a runtime telemetry import issue to improve stability and data collection. The work leveraged Python and proto, emphasizing backend development, cloud storage, and performance optimization to support scalable, reproducible operations within the platform.
