Worked on the fal-ai/fal repository to enhance backend maintainability by refining the naming of a key runtime state in the Runner component. Focused on Python-based backend development, the work involved renaming the FAILURE_DELAY state to CRASH_BACKOFF, clarifying its purpose and reducing confusion in logs and monitoring systems. This targeted refactor aligned state machine semantics with operational terminology, supporting clearer incident response and lowering future technical debt. The change was delivered through a well-documented commit and pull request, demonstrating strong version control practices. No user-facing features were added, but the update improved code clarity and monitoring accuracy for the team.
