Worked on the hmpps-remand-and-sentencing-api repository, focusing on refactoring the Legacy Sentence update path to enhance event emission reliability and code maintainability. Using Kotlin and the Spring Framework, restructured the update methods in both LegacySentenceController and LegacySentenceService, removing redundant logic and aligning the codebase with ongoing technical debt reduction goals. The approach preserved backward compatibility and did not introduce user-facing API changes, instead prioritizing internal improvements such as reduced risk of regressions and improved testability. This backend development effort resulted in a cleaner, more extensible codebase, supporting future enhancements and simplifying ongoing maintenance for the project.
