During December 2024, E.J. Hannon focused on improving the BrainFANS repository by streamlining its data pipeline. Hannon removed legacy R and Bash scripts responsible for data downloads and CNV summary generation, targeting unused components that increased maintenance overhead and risk. This code refactoring effort, implemented using Python, R, and Bash, aimed to simplify data management and file handling within the project. By eliminating redundant scripts, Hannon enhanced the reliability of data ingestion workflows and made onboarding easier for new contributors. The work demonstrated a thoughtful approach to maintainability, prioritizing clarity and reducing potential confusion in the repository’s data acquisition layer.
