Worked on the apache/iggy repository to enhance partition distribution fairness and efficiency during consumer group rebalancing. Developed a two-pass Balanced Partition Distribution mechanism that assigns partitions more evenly among consumers, reducing assignment skew and improving overall system balance. Integrated validation steps to ensure the distribution remained fair and adjusted the cooperative rebalancing logic to support these improvements. Delivered a targeted server-side fix that enforces even partition distribution, directly addressing previous inefficiencies. The work was implemented using Rust, with a focus on asynchronous programming and backend development, and included comprehensive testing to ensure the robustness and correctness of the new feature.
