Gurcharan contributed to the bcgov/HOUS-permit-portal project by developing a new jurisdiction_staff? method, aimed at consolidating staff role checks within the backend codebase. Using Ruby and the Ruby on Rails framework, Gurcharan abstracted the logic for identifying jurisdiction staff, which streamlined the jurisdiction_must_belong_to_correct_roles validation and reduced code duplication. This approach improved code readability and maintainability, laying the foundation for more scalable access control across multiple jurisdictions. The work focused on backend development, emphasizing clear role-based logic and future-proofing the system for additional user role references, though the scope was limited to a single feature during the period.
