Worked on the longhorn/longhorn-manager repository to deliver a new backup monitoring metric that enhances observability and reliability of backup operations. Developed and integrated the lastBackupAt metric within the VolumeCollector, exposing the timestamp of the last successful backup for each volume. This addition enables proactive monitoring, alerting, and improved SLA tracking for backup processes. The implementation involved backend development using Go and leveraged Prometheus for metrics instrumentation and dashboard integration. By surfacing the last backup timestamp, the work improved visibility into backup health and allowed for more effective operational oversight, focusing on robust, maintainable code within a production storage environment.
