During December 2025, JV contributed to the meshtastic/Meshtastic-Android repository by developing a new Compass feature that enables users to view compass headings, bearings, and distances to targets within the Android app. JV ported the Compass view bottom sheet from the Apple version, ensuring cross-platform UI consistency and accelerating feature parity. The implementation involved robust permission handling and sensor initialization, leveraging Kotlin and XML for Android development and UI design. By integrating sensor data and managing location permissions, JV delivered a reliable and user-friendly onboarding experience. The work demonstrated depth in sensor integration and thoughtful attention to platform-specific requirements and usability.
