During February 2025, Jorik Smit contributed to the atopile/atopile repository by developing a new feature for the KiCad PCB Exporter. He implemented the hide_all_designators method within the Faebryk PCB transformer, enabling automated hiding of designators across all footprints in exported KiCad PCB files. This solution iterates through each footprint and its text elements, programmatically managing designator visibility to streamline PCB export workflows. The work was carried out using Python and leveraged expertise in PCB design and exporter development. While the contribution focused on a single feature, it addressed maintainability and business value in the codebase’s export process.
