Worked on the istio/istio repository to enhance metrics observability and reliability for Kubernetes environments, focusing on multi-container pods and multi-target scraping. Developed features in Go to enable concurrent metrics collection across multiple ports and containers, introducing a new annotation for flexible configuration while maintaining backward compatibility. Improved the pilot-agent to merge metrics outputs predictably and safely, with robust error handling and resource caps to prevent exhaustion. Implemented end-to-end integration tests under strict mTLS, hardening webhook validation and ensuring stable, Prometheus-compatible outputs. The work emphasized backend development, integration testing, and concurrent programming to deliver resilient, scalable metrics infrastructure.
