During December 2024, Kevin Caffrey focused on reliability improvements in the pion/interceptor repository, addressing a critical bug in the RTP/RTX buffer management path. He resolved an issue where late-arriving RTX retransmissions could corrupt RTP packet processing, refining the logic for sequence number tracking to prevent improper overwrites and retrievals. This work required a deep understanding of network programming and real-time communication protocols, leveraging Go to ensure robust buffer state management. By enhancing the handling of NACK and RTX scenarios, Kevin’s contribution reduced packet misordering and data loss, ultimately improving streaming reliability for high-latency real-time communication environments.
