Worked on the Automattic/gutenberg repository to deliver a backward-compatible navigation user experience improvement by restoring the openSubmenusOnClick behavior for navigation submenus. Addressed legacy workflow needs by implementing the feature using React’s useContext, ensuring that existing users could continue to open submenus by clicking, as in previous versions. Focused on minimizing user friction and reducing potential regressions, the solution aligned the navigation component with established patterns. Collaborated with other contributors to co-author the change, utilizing front end development skills and JSON for configuration. The work emphasized maintaining usability for current users while supporting ongoing queries and compatibility requirements.
