During May 2025, contributed feature enhancements to the xtdb/arrow-java and mathworks/arrow repositories, focusing on improving metadata exposure in FlightSQL. Developed and integrated support for column remarks in table metadata, enabling clients to access column descriptions through the FlightSQL CommandGetTables interface. This work introduced the ARROW:FLIGHT:SQL:REMARKS metadata key, aligning metadata handling with JDBC standards and enhancing interoperability for downstream tools. Leveraging skills in backend development, Protocol Buffers, and SQL, ensured consistent metadata representation across both Java and C++ codebases. The effort centered on feature delivery and cross-repository collaboration, laying groundwork for richer data discovery and client user experience.
