Concise monthly summary for Azure CLI development (April 2026). Focused on AKS gateway configuration enhancements to give users direct control over gateway APIs during cluster creation and updates. Implemented two hotfixes to az aks create/update, adding flags to manage Istio App Routing gateway integration and to manage the Managed Gateway API installation, reducing configuration gaps and enabling safer, more reproducible AKS deployments. Directly contributed to improved deployment reliability and user experience for gateway-related features in Azure CLI.

March 2026 — Azure/telescope: Delivered a feature upgrade to the Azure CLI extension (beta 27) to enable new app routing features, including Istio-based routing via the --enable-app-routing-istio flag. No major bugs fixed in this period for this repo. This upgrade enhances deployment routing flexibility, improves customer onboarding for Istio-based routing, and sets the stage for broader routing controls. Technologies demonstrated include Azure CLI, version management, feature flags, and cross-functional collaboration.

June 2025: Implemented AKS Web App Routing with DNS Zone Management and RBAC in Azure/telescope. This enables automated web app routing for AKS clusters by mapping DNS Zone IDs and granting the AKS identity the DNS Zone Contributor role, with unit tests to ensure reliability. The work reduces manual configuration, accelerates deployments, and strengthens security posture by explicit RBAC controls.
