Developed and iterated on a Hotspot Detector feature for the Astral-trails repository, focusing on data visualization and user interface maintainability using Python and Streamlit. The feature enabled filtering and display of locations with high-intensity showers, including user messaging when no hotspots were detected. After initial implementation and validation through targeted updates to app.py, the feature was removed to streamline the UI and reduce maintenance overhead, while preserving the underlying workflow for potential future use. This approach demonstrated a balance between rapid experimentation and long-term codebase stability, with clear documentation supporting future reintroduction or further development as project needs evolve.
