Worked on the bkeepers/signalk-server repository to enhance device identification and provider configurability for canbus integrations. Developed a feature that introduces optional Manufacturer Code (MfgCode) support, allowing users to specify a code or rely on a default, and refactored UniqueNumber handling to ensure it is always a valid integer or randomly generated when necessary. This backend development effort, implemented in JavaScript, addressed challenges with source identification on devices lacking unique IDs, improving data provenance and interoperability. The work focused on configuration management, aligning with product reliability goals and supporting customer integration requirements by ensuring robust validation and flexible provider configuration.
