During their work on the broadinstitute/sam repository, Paul Shapiro developed two core features focused on access control and configuration management. He implemented datasnapshot management as a child resource of datasets, introducing role-based access control and inheritance to ensure dataset custodians automatically become stewards of associated datasnapshots. This approach improved data governance and traceability within the system. Additionally, Paul delivered a new resource type for managing Google projects in the Terra Data Repository, standardizing provisioning and IAM role assignments. His work leveraged HCL and HOCON for backend development, resulting in more consistent workflows and enhanced security for resource management operations.
