Worked on enhancing device type reporting reliability within the rdkcentral/entservices-deviceanddisplay repository, focusing on system services that depend on accurate device classification. Addressed a bug where the GetDeviceType API could return empty values by implementing a fallback mechanism to query the org.rdk.System plugin and performing necessary string conversions in C++. This approach improved data quality for device management, inventory, telemetry, and orchestration across deployments. The work centered on platformcapsdatarpc.cpp, leveraging skills in RPC and system services to ensure robust device identification. These changes reduced misreporting issues and support overhead, contributing to more reliable system service operations.
