In December 2024, Sosha developed the DiskPlacementType configuration capability for Azure Virtual Machines in the microsoft/lisa repository, enabling users to specify granular placement options for ephemeral OS disks. This work involved updating ARM and Bicep templates to expose the new setting and extending Python deployment logic to support multiple disk placement scenarios. By leveraging Azure, Infrastructure as Code, and Python development skills, Sosha’s contribution improved deployment flexibility and allowed for targeted performance tuning. The implementation addressed the need for more precise control over VM disk placement, reducing operational risk and enhancing the adaptability of cloud infrastructure deployments.
