Developed VLAN-aware networking enhancements for the vmware-tanzu/vm-operator repository, focusing on extending the VirtualMachineNetworkSpec to support 802.1Q VLAN configuration on physical NICs. Leveraged Go and Kubernetes to introduce VLANs as an API field with explicit defaults, improving predictability and security for virtual machine networking. Integrated compatibility with the CloudInit bootstrap provider, enabling seamless VM deployment with VLAN-enabled networking. Ensured robust API conversions and comprehensive test scaffolding across multiple API versions to prevent regressions. This work laid the foundation for VLAN-based network segmentation, supporting better isolation, policy enforcement, and operational efficiency in multi-tenant virtual machine environments.
