During January 2026, Smurf88 contributed to the mvl-boston/opendbc repository by adding Tesla Model 3 support to the Fingerprint Database, updating fingerprints to align with the latest firmware. This work enabled the system to recognize and interact with Model 3 vehicles, expanding the database’s coverage and reducing onboarding friction for users. Smurf88’s approach focused on stability and future-proofing, ensuring reliable fingerprint matching as firmware evolves. The project involved automotive software development and embedded systems expertise, utilizing Python and Git-based collaboration. The depth of the work is reflected in the careful integration and co-authored commit, with no major bugs reported post-release.
