Worked on the istio/istio repository to deliver Gateway DNS Configuration Support, enabling custom DNS settings for Istio gateways through enhancements to the Helm chart. Added dnsPolicy and dnsConfig overrides to the deployment template and values files, allowing cluster-specific DNS customization and reducing manual intervention. Implemented comprehensive rendering tests to ensure reliability and consistency in deployment. This work leveraged skills in Go, Helm, and Kubernetes, focusing on infrastructure as code and YAML templating. The feature addressed the need for flexible DNS management in gateway deployments, helping to prevent policy drift and streamline operational workflows without introducing major bug fixes during the period.
