Developed and delivered a read-only mode feature for the grafana/mcp-grafana repository, introducing a --disable-write flag to restrict write operations across the MCP server. This enhancement focused on improving security and governance by preventing unauthorized changes, particularly in production and testing environments. The implementation included extending read-only controls to alert rule and annotation management tools, ensuring comprehensive coverage of write operations. Work was completed using Go and Python, with thorough documentation updates and a dedicated Read-Only Mode section in the README. Comprehensive tests were added to validate the new flag’s behavior, supporting robust deployment and operational confidence.
