During January 2026, Tomas Kovarik developed a security-focused enhancement for the Azure/azure-cli repository, introducing a new CLI flag that allows users to disable local key-based authentication for Cosmos DB accounts. By leveraging Python and the Azure SDK, Tomas implemented a flexible authentication mechanism that enables customers to opt out of local-key authentication and select alternative methods, supporting compliance and governance requirements. The feature was designed to integrate seamlessly with existing workflows, preserving backward compatibility while offering greater control over authentication strategies.
