In December 2025, Bjørn enhanced the dhis2/maps-app repository by integrating Google Earth Engine NDVI and EVI layers, enabling advanced vegetation analysis within the application. Using JavaScript, React, and Redux, he implemented MODIS-based NDVI and EVI as selectable map layers, introduced a dedicated vegetation color scale, and supported both default and custom band naming with descriptive metadata. The update included UI improvements and comprehensive documentation to support new workflows. This work deepened the app’s analytical capabilities, allowing users to assess land cover and vegetation health more accurately, and provided a robust foundation for data-driven decision-making by stakeholders.
Month 2025-12: Delivered a substantial vegetation-analysis enhancement in the maps-app by integrating Google Earth Engine NDVI and EVI layers. Implemented MODIS NDVI and MODIS EVI as layer sources, added single-band selection, default band selection, and support for custom band naming and descriptions. Introduced a new vegetation color scale, and updated UI components and documentation to reflect the changes. This work expands analytical capabilities for vegetation monitoring, enabling more accurate assessment of land cover and health, and supports data-driven decision-making for program stakeholders.
