In November 2025, Wojciech Pelech developed comprehensive validation tests for the Iceberg ANALYZE command within the trinodb/trino repository, focusing on the Iceberg connector. He concentrated on strengthening test automation and reliability by verifying that statistics collection for the ANALYZE command functioned correctly and that exceptions were handled safely. Using Java and leveraging his skills in database management and testing, Wojciech integrated these tests into the BaseIcebergConnectorSmokeTest suite. This work improved data quality guarantees and increased confidence in query planning for Iceberg workloads, addressing the risk of inaccurate statistics leading to suboptimal execution plans without introducing new bug fixes.
