PROFILE

Ybedfer

Over six months, this developer enhanced MPGD detector simulation and data processing in the eic/epic and eic/EICrecon repositories. They delivered 2D-strip readout and digitization features, introduced multi-hit cluster support, and standardized geometry descriptions to improve simulation realism and maintainability. Their work involved C++ development, XML configuration, and geometric modeling, focusing on backward-compatible changes that eased integration for downstream users. By implementing realistic pitch modeling, refining segmentation, and stabilizing event header ingestion, they improved both the accuracy of physics analyses and the reliability of data pipelines. Collaborative contributions ensured robust validation, smooth transitions, and clear documentation throughout development.

Month: 2026-05 — Key feature delivery in eic/EICrecon focused on MPGD clustering fidelity and multi-hit handling. Implemented MultiSensitiveMPGD: Multi-hit cluster support, expanding the clustering capability within MultiSensitiveMPGD to improve digitization and simulation of multi-hit MPGD signals. The work is documented by commit 0b0e0ed664240dfb9c21827f3891af73aca94d12 and linked to PRs #2177 and #2264. The change is non-breaking by default, with explicit compatibility notes for users loading MPGD XMLs from Multi-SensitiveVolume-MPGD or using -PMPGD:SiFactoryPattern != 3. Co-authored contributions reflect collaboration across the team. Major bugs fixed: No explicit critical bug fixes documented for this repo in May 2026; effort focused on feature delivery and integration. Overall impact and accomplishments: Enhanced realism of MPGD data reconstruction, enabling more accurate physics analyses and smoother downstream workflows. Strengthened collaboration through coordinated commits and cross-review. Technologies/skills demonstrated: C++ development, MPGD digitization and clustering, version control and PR integration, multi-author collaboration, and documentation of compatibility considerations.

January 2025: Delivered end-to-end 2D-strip readout enhancements for CyMBaL and Outer Barrel MPGD detectors in both data acquisition (eic/epic) and simulation (eic/EICrecon) stacks. Implemented 2D-strip readout with UV segmentation for Outer Barrel; updated sensor numbering and module naming to support the new segmentation scheme; changes are additive and do not alter default behavior or require user code changes. Introduced a reversible 2D-strip digitization path in simulations, moving from pixel-only readout to a detailed 2D-strip readout with an option to revert to pixel readout; added new C++ sources, and updates to build and detector configurations. All changes are additive and preserve backward compatibility.
