Worked on the starship/starship repository to address a bug in Cargo workspace version detection, specifically when the Cargo.toml file serves as the workspace root. Refactored the version discovery logic to prioritize checking the current file before traversing ancestor directories, ensuring accurate identification of the workspace root. Added a regression test to cover this scenario, improving reliability and preventing future regressions. The work focused on targeted bug fixing rather than feature development, utilizing Rust and TOML parsing skills along with knowledge of Cargo’s workspace structure. This approach enhanced the robustness of workspace version handling within the project’s codebase.
