In March 2025, Jeff Huang developed the Compass SDK Direct Search feature for the cohere-ai/cohere-compass-sdk repository, focusing on enhancing search workflows within the SDK. He implemented new methods, direct_search and direct_search_scroll, on the CompassClient, enabling users to perform direct queries and efficiently scroll through large datasets. Using Python, Jeff integrated advanced API interaction and SDK development techniques to support chunked data retrieval, demonstrated through an example script that retrieves all index chunks using the new scrolling capability. The work addressed the need for faster, more flexible search functionality, delivering a focused, well-scoped feature without reported bugs during the period.
