Worked on the ministryofjustice/analytical-platform repository to enhance cloud infrastructure for analytics workloads over a two-month period. Delivered standardized Athena Spark and Python workgroups using Terraform and HCL, integrating PySpark and refining AWS IAM roles and S3 access controls to improve governance, security, and cost efficiency. Addressed Spark Terraform configuration issues by updating IAM role attachments and policies, ensuring robust role management. Extended IAM policies to enable Spark access to additional S3 buckets, supporting broader analytics workflows while maintaining security standards. The work focused on scalable, maintainable cloud engineering practices, emphasizing clear configuration, traceability, and secure data access for development teams.
March 2025: Enhanced data access for analytics by extending the IAM policy to grant Spark access to the alpha-everyone S3 bucket, enabling Spark/Athena workloads to read packages stored there while upholding security and governance. Delivered with clear traceability and minimal risk impact.
