Over a two-month period, contributed to the CMSgov/beneficiary-fhir-data repository by delivering two infrastructure features focused on observability and operational monitoring. Implemented Prometheus JMX metrics exposure for Java applications, configuring exporters, environment variables, and container ports to enable effective metric scraping and dashboarding. Additionally, developed an ECS EventBridge monitoring rule to capture ECS cluster events and export them to CloudWatch, involving the creation of IAM policies, CloudWatch event rules, and log groups. Leveraged AWS, Terraform, and HCL to automate infrastructure changes, resulting in improved incident response, enhanced visibility into production workloads, and a more robust monitoring foundation for beneficiary data services.
February 2026 – CMSgov/beneficiary-fhir-data: Delivered ECS EventBridge monitoring for ECS cluster events to CloudWatch, enhancing observability and incident response. Implemented a monitoring rule to capture ECS cluster events and log them to CloudWatch, including creation of IAM policies, CloudWatch event rules, and log groups. This work is tied to BFD-4388 with commit 34020bcc0336aed20710cd84b0402139fb9d433e. No major bugs fixed this month. Overall impact: improved operational visibility, faster incident diagnosis, and stronger governance for beneficiary data services. Technologies demonstrated: AWS EventBridge, IAM, CloudWatch Logs, CloudWatch Events rules, and changeset traceability.
