Worked on the METR/vivaria repository to enhance the reliability and security of deployment pipelines by addressing a critical bug in task commit retrieval. Focused on backend development using JavaScript and TypeScript, the work involved updating the logic to ensure that changes to sensitive environment files, specifically secrets.env, are accurately tracked when determining the latest commit for a task family. Integrated comprehensive regression testing to verify that commits affecting secrets.env are properly identified, thereby improving traceability and reducing the risk of missing essential updates. This approach strengthened CI/CD processes by ensuring all relevant changes are reflected during deployments.
