Worked on the Shopify/opentelemetry-ruby-contrib repository to deliver Dalli instrumentation with meta protocol support, expanding OpenTelemetry tracing capabilities for Ruby applications. Focused on enhancing observability by implementing end-to-end tracing for both meta and binary protocol operations within Dalli-based caching workflows. Developed comprehensive tests to ensure the new instrumentation functioned correctly alongside existing binary protocol support, prioritizing reliability and trace fidelity. Utilized Ruby and Ruby on Rails, applying skills in instrumentation and testing to improve troubleshooting and performance insights for production deployments. The work emphasized feature expansion and robust test coverage, addressing the need for deeper visibility into caching operations without introducing bug fixes.
