Worked on the discourse/discourse repository to deliver a performance-focused feature optimizing disk space calculation for upload-heavy instances. The solution simplified the calculation logic by removing conditional checks for external storage and directly summing file sizes from the Upload and OptimizedImage tables. This approach, implemented in Ruby with a focus on database query and performance optimization, enabled faster upload throughput and improved resource utilization. The change enhanced scalability for deployments with high upload volumes by streamlining backend processes. Throughout the project, the developer demonstrated a methodical approach to improving system efficiency, addressing a concrete business need with measurable impact on application performance.
