Worked on the newrelic/entity-definitions repository to deliver a staging configuration that resolves relationships between APM applications and MSSQL instances. Focused on backend development and configuration management, the approach used YAML to define rules that map applications to database instances by server address and port, rather than host name, improving targeting accuracy when multiple MSSQL instances share a host. Introduced a staging-only validation workflow to test these rules against real span data before production deployment, aligning the relationship pattern with OTEL-APPLICATION-to-INFRA-MSSQLINSTANCE standards. This work enhanced database management practices and established a safer, more precise path to production rollout.
June 2026: Delivered a staging configuration for MSSQL relationship resolution in the newrelic/entity-definitions repo, enabling accurate mapping of APM applications to MSSQL instances using server.address and server.port. Implemented a staging-only validation workflow (.stg.yml) to test relationship rules against real span data before production rollout, mirroring OTEL-APPLICATION-to-INFRA-MSSQLINSTANCE patterns. These changes improve database targeting accuracy, reduce incorrect associations when multiple MSSQL instances share a host, and establish a safer path to production-rule activation.
