Developed an emoji search enhancement for the block/buzz repository, focusing on improving recall and discovery within the desktop application. The work centered on implementing separator-insensitive fuzzy shortcode matching in the emoji autocomplete, allowing users to locate emojis such as 'point_up' by typing variations like 'pointup'. Leveraging React and TypeScript, the developer augmented the existing emoji-mart search with a custom ranking layer to deliver more relevant results. This feature was delivered under the desktop scope, aligning with product and user experience objectives. The approach emphasized frontend development best practices and incorporated unit testing to ensure reliability and maintainability of the new functionality.
